Dirty the Bones- On Being White and Other Lies (History is Medicine)
I am performing my show "Dirty the
Bones- On Being White and Other Lies..." at the fabulous Bedlam Theatre
this June 6-7, 2008 in Minneapolis. I am sharing the stage with my dear friend and
amazing performance artist Gabrielle Civil! More Information here.
Dirty the Bones—On Being White and Other Lies
(History as Medicine) is my solo performance that premiered November 9, 2006 at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. Naked Stages awards four commissions a year to create a full-length
performance piece and is generously funded by The Jerome Foundation.
Through personal stories, a surrealist game show to pick the best white person, a Footloose inspired Irish step dance, a
retelling of Dances With Wolves, ritual moments and a daring act of
gentleness in a brutal world Ellen Marie Hinchcliffe asks herself some
of the questions that white people need to ask- to begin to heal, be of
use and fully join the human race. Laugh your ass off, cry your eyes dry, tell yourself the truth the best you can; all together now, survive.
